Pelta Medical Papers have come together with the training provider CATCH UK to introduce five new Production Apprentices to further help efficiently run our production processes and enhance the capability of our future Operations team. The apprenticeships will commence in September 2024.

Positions Available
5 x Papermaking Process Apprentices, 3-year programme (18+ Age Requirement)

With quality and safety standards in mind at all times, our business depends highly on the skills and dedication of our Production team. As well as progressing through the required learning modules and block release, you will also be in a dedicated Production Operative role - so responsible for a specific part of our process.

As you build your skills throughout the 3-year programme you will move into different Production roles and experience the wider process.

You will also spend time in every area of our business (e.g. Engineering, Quality Control, Product Development, Logistics, Sales, Finance, IT etc) to help build your broader business and commercial skills for your future career with us once qualified. We're looking for candidates committed to delivering process excellence and to helping shape our businesses future.

Working Week
The apprenticeship will consist of a combination of block release at CATCH in Stallingborough and Beetham Mill. There will also be blocks of online learning throughout the apprenticeship.

Desired Qualifications
Applicants will need a minimum of 3 GCSEs at A*-C (9-4) Grades including in English and Mathematics based subjects or equivalent.

You will complete the Level 3 Science Manufacturing Technician standard including the City & Guilds L3 0610 in Process Technology. In addition to this you will also complete a Level 2 and Level 3 qualification in Papermaking.

Reporting to: Head of Engineering

Overall Purpose of the Role:
Due to succession planning and development of the Engineering Department, we are recruiting for a Maintenance Manager to join the team. This position has the Electrical and Mechanical Foremen reporting directly to the Maintenance Manager.

We are offering the opportunity for a motivated individual to join a team of dedicated Engineers in maintaining our paper machines and auxiliary processes onsite, to maximise efficiencies safely, 24 hours per day. The successful applicant is to have a minimum of 10 years’ experience over their career in an industrial environment. They will join a team working a Monday to Friday, 8:00– 16:30 working pattern. Due to the nature of the role, support out of hours would sometimes occur. Hybrid working can be agreed.

Engineering within paper mills offers a very diverse and interesting scope of daily work, and we are looking for an individual with the enthusiasm and technical ability.

Main Duties & Responsibilities:
• Management of all plant related maintenance activities to ensure they are carried out in line with the company maintenance strategy.
• Management of both the Electrical and the Mechanical Foremen, and to ensure effective control of maintenance activities across disciplines.
• Driving continuous improvement in maintenance related tasks, including use of root cause analysis where relevant, and to identify defect trends.
• Attend / deliver regular team briefings to discuss priorities and plan maintenance work in production downtime.
• Support the Foremen with the supervision and support of both night and weekend shifts.
• Identifying training needs and providing training and feedback through completing one to one reviews, appraisals, and coaching.
• Qualifying service sub-contractors and agreeing work activities in conjunction with in-house team activities.
• Deliver improvement through identifying preventative maintenance programmes that support the smooth running of plant equipment.
• Working with the Stores & Facilities Engineer to identify critical spares levels.
• Identifying areas of risk on ageing assets and working with the project team on improvements.
• Completion of risk assessments and work-based method statements to ensure that maintenance team’s health and safety is to the highest standard.
• Support the Company during quality audits as required.
• Any other duties to meet on-going needs of the organisation including undertaking training and development deemed necessary for the role.

Experience, Qualities and Qualifications:
• Advanced Apprenticeship / HND / Degree level in Engineering (Electrical bias preferred)
• Min. of 10 years’ work experience in an industrial environment (Essential)
• Min. of 3 years supervisory or Managerial experience (Essential)
• Experience in a continuous manufacture industrial environment (Desirable)

Overall Purpose of the Role:

Following restructures to the Engineering Team the leadership and working patterns have altered to support the engagement of the wider team.

We are offering the opportunity for a motivated individual to join a team of dedicated Engineers in maintaining our paper machines and auxiliary processes onsite, to maximise efficiencies safely, 24 hours per day. The successful applicant is to have a minimum of 3 years’ experience in a similar environment. They will join a team working an 8-week, day based cycle, involving some weekend coverage with 6 rostered weeks off per year plus 12 days floating holidays and voluntary on call rota responsibility and opportunity of overtime.

Engineering within paper mills offers a very diverse and interesting scope of daily work, and we are looking for an individual with the enthusiasm and technical ability to further strengthen our team.

Main Duties & Responsibilities:

• General mill-wide maintenance work on paper machines and auxiliary plant either as part of a team or on an individual basis.
• Bench work including repairs to equipment, fabrications, welding, hydraulics, pneumatics etc.
• Use of machinery in the Engineering Workshops.
• Call out duties.
• Fault finding work on pneumatic/hydraulic systems.
• Boiler house and steam system maintenance.

Experience, Qualities and Qualifications:

• NVQ Level 3 (or equiv.) in Engineering (Mechanical preferred)
• Recognised apprenticeship (preferred)
• Min. of 3 years’ work experience as a Technician or Fitter (Essential)
• The above gained in an industrial environment (Desirable)
• Paper mill experience (Desirable)

Reporting to: Logistics Manager (Beetham) and Warehouse Supervisor (Milnthorpe)

Overall Purpose of the Role:

As we move our warehouse operation to Mainline Warehouse in Milnthorpe, from being managed by a local logistics and warehouse company until recently, we are looking to recruit a Warehouse Supervisor to ensure the smooth running of both of our warehouses.

This new position will be to support the Warehouse Supervisor in all warehouse activities at the Milnthorpe site, including Health and Safety, Hygiene and truck checklists,

This is an exciting role for someone who can show the initiative and ability to work in a busy warehouse environment and to control the warehouse in the absence of the supervisor

Main Duties & Responsibilities:

• Arranging the storage of finished products in the offsite warehouse.
• Re labeling and packing of reels as and when required.
• Ensuring reels are identified and labelled correctly.
• Pick and load Call-offs for delivery to customers arranged by the Sales and Despatch teams.
• Carry out physical stock checks as an when required.
• Work with transport companies and transport Shunter to arrange loading of trailers for delivery to customers.
• Any truck driving duty required at the offsite warehouse.
• Ensuring Truck Checklist is kept up to date and report any defects to the Warehouse or Engineering Manager.
• Create transport documentation for deliveries to customers.
• Assist in the annual stock.
• Work with Auditors when they inspect the warehouse and check stocks.
• Follow Health & Safety procedures within the offsite warehouse
• Follow Hygiene procedures within the offsite warehouse.
• Review and maintain SSOW and make recommendations and changes when required.

Experience, Qualities and Qualifications:

• You should have experience of working in a warehouse environment.
• Proficient on a forklift and using a reel clamp.
• The ability to manage and prioritize your daily workload.
• Ability to work on your own or as part of a team.
• Excellent attention to detail, numerical and communication skills.

Essential experience/knowledge:

• Experience of Forklifts and Reel clamps (essential)
• Experience of loading trailers and containers
• Experience of truck safety and maintenance rules
• Be capable of running the warehouse in the absence of the Supervisor
• Be IT literate to organise packing lists and delivery notes

Personal skills and qualities:

You should be a confident, calm individual with the ability to work quickly whilst maintaining exceptional quality.

Working Pattern:

• Monday to Friday 07.00 to 16.00 with one hour for lunch
• Some overtime may be required at busy times

Reporting to: Electrical Foremen

Overall Purpose of the Role:
To ensure that all instrumentation and electronic equipment on site is maintained correctly.

Main Duties & Responsibilities:
• Liaise with EC&I Engineer to see that all control systems are working correctly.
• Repair and calibration of various types of instrumentation, including; temperature, level, pressure, flow and load instrumentation.
• Liaise with EC&I Engineer regarding the condition of equipment to allow for financial planning in replacement and refurbishment activities.
• Participate in the commissioning of new or modified equipment.
• Maintain the outstanding work list and work to priorities, in conjunction with other departments and within the Engineering Team.
• Support in a breakdown situation.
• Prepare and amend as appropriate, electrical drawings.
• Liaise with outside contractors as required.
• Ensure the Health & Safety of employees and contractors around your work and ensure that Safe Systems of Work are followed.
• Ensure all accidents and dangerous incidents are reported and appropriate action taken.

Essential Experience & Knowledge:
• L3 Advanced Apprenticeship or equivalent in related discipline
• HNC in related discipline
• At least 3 years post apprenticeship experience in industry.
• 18th Edition Wiring regulations (advantageous)
• Ability to fault find on complex systems using drawings & manuals.
• Knowledge and understanding of control theory.
• Working with various types of signals and communication.
• Experience using DCS and SCADA control systems along with understanding of the control architecture.
• Understanding of PLC logic.
• Experience working on pneumatic and hydraulic systems.

Personal Skills & Qualities:
• Able to work interdepartmentally and be a team player.
• Clear and concise communicator.
